"CREATIVE WRITING enables students to explore and engage diverse creative writing practices and to develop artistic, critical and conceptual competence in an interdisciplinary context.

Students who may benefit from this minor include:

  • Students who want to develop specializations in a particular artistic medium

  • Students who are looking for ways to signal creative written and visual competence

  • Students who are interested in experimental, critical and reflexive thinking

  • Students who wish to supplement other areas of study with forms of creative practice and engagement."

As an IA major, I decided to minor in Creative Writing to further narrow my focus but also refine my writing skills. I felt it was important to expand the way I communicate. I've learned to write in a formal way all my life and thought it was a great opportunity to go beyond. I researched and experimented with prose, poetry, and process. I have written within constraints but also conceptually. Creative writing has given me the tools to strengthen my ideas and to use language to be innovative.

BLOG

Fashion & Social Justice

This blog is dedicated to social justice within high fashion. High fashion is notably one of the most practiced culture in our world. It constantly gets promoted through pop culture. As a lover of high fashion, style, and visuals I've come to notice that these powerful brands tend to exploit minority cultures or are culturally insensitive. I wish to call out but also educate viewers that we can't allow high fashion to continue their ignorant ways as it does affect many people.

This was my opportunity to write in a personable way but also be backed up with credible discourse.

Participatory Culture

This blog is dedicated to our current participatory digital culture. Through my posts I discuss different topics in relation to what technology has afforded humanity from crowdfunding to online fan communities. Technology and media is constantly influencing our behavior, choices, and processes. It's important to take note what this all means in the long run or what it says about our society.
